It is the end of an era at Manchester United as Anthony Martial waves goodbye to Manchester United supporters.

The forgotten man of Manchester United, Anthony Martial, did make it onto the pitch at Old Trafford last night.

It was not in a playing role. His last game at the stadium was the defeat to Bournemouth way back on December 9.

He subsequently underwent a groin operation in January and has been out since, even though he has been pictured back in a training session, although Erik ten Hag said he did not complete it.

Martial was not on the bench against Newcastle last night, again, but was present at Old Trafford for the final home game of the season.

His contract is up at the end of June and will not be renewed. While he is technically available for the final league game of the season and FA Cup Final, it would be a surprise to see him.

Martial missed last season's FA Cup Final too, infamously seen nursing his hamstring during Erik ten Hag's post-match speech.

His first season was excellent, and then he endured some inconsistent ones, but the talent was always there.

Around 2021, the injuries really took hold, and Martial struggled struggled to string a run of games together.

Over the past two-and-a-half years, going back to his loan at Sevilla, his injury situation has been truly farcical. Due to his expensive wages, United have struggled to get rid of him.

It is sad it turned out like this, but we can all be glad his spell is finally at an end. It's well overdue.
