51 touches, 93% pass accuracy: United star impresses against Newcastle but could leave soon - View

Sofyan Amrabat delivered another solid midfield performance for Manchester United during the 3-2 Premier League win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The Moroccan has had a difficult loan season with the Red Devils. He has spent most of his time on the bench with manager Erik ten Hag preferring Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo over him.

Amrabat recently impressed in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal. He got the nod in the centre of the park alongside Mainoo after Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount were ruled out with injuries.

He was rewarded with another starting role against the Magpies yesterday. He fared well again with a passing accuracy of 93 per cent. He managed 51 touches over 90 minutes.

The midfielder was lucky to not concede a penalty for a foul on Anthony Gordon. However, he was also brilliant defensively and made a terrific recovery to deny a clear goal for Alexander Isak.

Despite his good end of the season form, we would be surprised if United decide to re-sign him.

The club have the option to purchase the midfielder from Fiorentina this summer. He was signed for an initial EUR10 million on loan with an option to buy for EUR20m plus EUR5m in add-ons.

A lot more was expected from Amrabat after a fantastic 2022 World Cup with Morocco. With his minimal impact for most of the season, the new hierarchy could decide against a permanent deal.

Amrabat will be 28 in August this year. The onus could be on recruiting a couple of younger midfielders with experience. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could also head for the exit door this summer.
