Former Liverpool midfielder turned television and radio pundit Graeme Souness has admitted there's a real chance manager Roy Keane labelled 'brilliant' could take over at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have endured a rocky season and are on course for their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era.

As such, United boss Erik ten Hag has been under immense scrutiny and several reports suggest he could move on in the summer.

If that were to materialise, Souness thinks one man has a real chance of landing the role.

"He will get offered a job," Souness admitted.

"I could see him going to the Euros and winning it for England this year. I think they have to start as favourites. He has a group of players who are more than capable of winning it, if they are handled right.

"That's a possibility [going to Man United]. If he goes and wins the trophy, all the big clubs are. I think so [he does well at Man United]."

Southgate, who Roy Keane labelled 'brilliant', seems to be the overwhelming favourite to take over at Old Trafford, with INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, reportedly making him their number-one target.

Erik ten Hag deserves at least another season Evidently, ten Hag has underperformed this season, there's no getting away from that.

However, he's also been handed an obscene amount of injuries, particularly defensively, which has to be taken into account.

The Dutchman came in with such high regard and enjoyed a productive first year at Old Trafford, so he deserves another season, with INEOS' backing, to get it right.
