Many Manchester United fans will agree with Wayne Rooney's assessment that a clearout is required at Old Trafford this summer.
United's record goalscorer offered a scathing view on Erik ten Hag's squad this season whilst on punditry duty for Sky Sports during the Red Devils win over Newcastle. Rooney shared his belief that most of United's current squad should be sold.
Any departures this summer could be complicated by the future of manager Ten Hag. A potential replacement for the Dutchman will want to make their own assessment of all first-team players, although their view will no doubt be clear after watching the majority of United's games this season.
Below are five players United should look to sell this summer as they try to recover from a nightmare campaign...
Antony A transfer which simply hasn't worked out and is unlikely ever to bring success if the manager who worked with him at Ajax cannot get a tune out of him.
The Brazilian has been a source of ridicule for most of his time at Old Trafford, United will be hoping that transfer interest from Saudi Arabia will emerge this summer. Any decent fee for the winger should be accepted without much hesitation.
Casemiro Like with Antony, potential transfer interest from Saudi could be a route out for Casemiro this summer. It has been clear all season that the defensive midfielder has declined past the point of no return with last season's good form now a distant memory.
It has hardly been Casemiro's fault that he has been forced to play at centre-back, a position he clearly is not comfortable with. However, his performances across the campaign have cost United on numerous occasions, something which cannot happen again next season.
Christian Eriksen The Dane was an excellent free transfer last season but like Casemiro, age and injuries appear to have caught up with the midfielder. Eriksen has been physically outmatched in most games he has played in 2023/24 with his technical ability no longer as sharp as it once was.
With the 32-year-old entering the final year of his contract next season, it would make sense for United to find a way to part ways this summer. Selling him will be difficult though with no clear market for him unless Saudi interest emerges.
Jadon Sancho Is Sancho worth another go after helping Borrusia Dortmund reach the Champions League final? There has been enough evidence since joining in 2021 to suggest the answer is probably no.
United should instead be pleased that the forward has come into some form during his loan spell in Germany as it should make selling him slightly easier. The 24-year-old has been in the shop window and the Red Devils should fetch a reasonable transfer fee this summer, especially if the Bundesliga club go on to shock Real Madrid at Wembley.
Donny van de Beek An easy one with the Dutchman currently struggling on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt. Any fee that United get for the midfielder is likely to be a bonus but the 27-year-old must go this summer.
