Andre Onana insists Erik ten Hag is no different to the manager who excelled at Ajax as the Manchester United boss clings onto his job.

Onana played under Ten Hag at Ajax, with the pair enjoying great success, winning three Eredivisie titles and two domestic cups. After a season at Inter Milan, the pair were reunited at Old Trafford last summer.

However, it has not been the campaign either envisaged, with United finishing down in eighth and crashing out of the Champions League in the group phase. Quizzed by Gary Neville on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, he admitted it had been a "bad season", but insisted Ten Hag is still the same man he played under in Amsterdam.

"I don't see any difference [in the way Ten Hag manages Manchester United in comparison to Ajax]," he said. "I think he's the same guy. Listen, we are the same guys, we are the same players, he is the same manager that I knew in Ajax, he will not change in one or two years.

"I am not here to back him, because he's big enough to [back himself]. Last season, he was fantastic for him. So, it's just a bad season.

"He's just facing difficult situations, and we are big enough to accept the reality, because if we want to make things well, we have to accept the reality and we have to go [in on the] front foot.

"So, I think he's the same manager. He's just facing different, difficult situations and hopefully things become good for him."
