Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has broken his silence after being snubbed from England's preliminary European Championships squad.

The 26-year-old has endured a difficult campaign for United this season and has fallen out of favour with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate. Rashford's problematic season saw him register just seven goals and two assists in 33 Premier League appearances as they were dumped out of the Champions League and finished outside of the European places.

Southgate opted to call-up the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka in his attacking ranks after naming a 33-man squad, which will be whittled down to 26 ahead of the tournament in Germany next month.

Taking to Instagram after the announcement, Rashford posted on his Instagram story: "Wishing Gareth (Southgate) and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament," alongside a picture of the England squad announcement.

Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson, who have featured prominently in England squads under Southgate despite criticism, have both been omitted. The Three Lions manager addressed the media on Tuesday, explaining his decision on Rashford, he said: "There are difficult calls. With Marcus (Rashford), I just feel other players in that part of the pitch have had better seasons."

England will play two warm-up matches against Bosnia and Iceland before taking on Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in the group stages.
