Man Utd target Ivan Toney responds to Thomas Frank's telling transfer comments on BBC

Toney has made no secret of his desire to leave Brentford for a bigger club if the opportunity presents itself in the near future. He is only tied down to the Bees until the end of next season, meaning they are under pressure to sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2025.

Brentford boss Frank recently discussed Toney's future while appearing as a pundit on BBC Sport, revealing the club have 'prepared' for the striker to leave by signing Igor Thiago from Club Brugge.

"Maybe we are selling a player but we are prepared for that," he said. "It's no secret that there's lots of rumours about Ivan. If he is leaving us, and I'd still like to keep him as he's a top player, this time we are prepared and brought in Igor Thiago."

When those comments were put to Toney during a press conference on Sunday, he replied: "I didn't hear him say that! I can't predict the future and if I could I wouldn't be sat here in front of you guys. What will be will be and my main focus is playing well and doing well for me country.

"I've been through it before. There's been lots of talk of me going here, there and everywhere before in my career and I just don't let outside noise get to me. I'm here with England now and the main focus is doing well for England and whatever happens, happens. I can't control it.

"From 18 when I was supposed to go to Wolves and I was all excited and getting involved in all of it, then it didn't happen, it hurt me. Since then, I thought: 'Why am I trying to take control of things when I don't need that pressure?'. I just let people who take care of those things do it and I focus on the pitch."

United were linked with a move for Toney earlier this year and Erik ten Hag has already stated that he is eager to add more firepower to his squad this summer. Arsenal, meanwhile, were said to have explored a deal in January but nothing materialised and he ended up staying at Brentford.

More recently, it has been claimed that Tottenham are keen on landing Toney to give themselves an extra cutting edge in attack. Brentford, who signed the forward from Peterborough United four years ago, are thought to be holding out for a transfer fee in the region of PS65million.
