Manchester United need to kick the 2024/25 season off in positive fashion, to erase all the struggles from last term. Although the campaign ended with an FA Cup final win, the term on the whole was a disappointing one. Let's hope bad habits have been kicked and Erik ten Hag's side come back next month with a point to prove.

In a European Championship year, squad harmony during pre-season is always tougher to build due to the fact that the lads all arrive for training at different times. However, United have been given a welcome early boost on that front, concerning Scott McTominay.

Although it will not feel like a positive for the player this morning, the 27-year-old is now 'expected' to feature on pre-season tour for the Reds, according to the Manchester Evening News.

That's because his native Scotland have been dumped out of EURO 2024 at the first time of asking. The midfielder will now have a three week holiday to rest up, recuperate and recharge the batteries before returning to training.

McTominay is expected to miss United's first pre-season game against Rosenborg, though a game against Rangers, in Edinburgh, on July 20th could be a realistic starting point for the Scotland international.

The midfielder enters into the season after a career-best 10 goals last term, so no doubt his individual confidence is flowing. It comes at a time where questions were raised about his long-term future at the club, so it's up to McTominay to back it up with another solid season.

Once again, McTominay will likely play a fringe role for the most part, though whenever United need a goal, they absolutely have someone in the 27-year-old who can deliver the goods. The fact he's going to have a full pre-season is massive news.
