Manchester United made the choice to name Bruno Fernandes as captain last summer, replacing Harry Maguire in the role.

Our Portuguese Magnifico helped his side win a trophy during his first year with the pressure of wearing the armband, with the attacking midfielder enjoying another fine campaign from a personal perspective.

As always at the highest level, the club will be looking forward, trying to work out what the future holds. Today, the Manchester Evening News believe the Reds have an eye on Diogo Dalot as someone who could proudly sport the captain's armband in future.

Before we go any further, we'd like to stress that Bruno remains an integral part of the dressing room - and that will not change anytime soon.

That said, the MEN believe United have identified the 25-year-old Dalot as a 'potential future captain' of the club, with the ex-Porto man a contender to eventually replace Bruno.

Dalot was just one of two players who remained fit for the large majority of the campaign, with the right-back benefitting from that, displaying his best form ever since making the move to Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

The positive campaign was reaffirmed by the fact that Dalot was named Player of the Year for the Red Devils at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Dalot is under contract until 2028, having signed a new five-year deal just last year.

All these factors mean the right-back is probably best-placed to be given the armband in future, though nothing is imminent on that front. It'll be interesting to see if Dalot is named captain in those rare situations where Bruno isn't on the field.
