Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt remains a transfer target for Manchester United this summer, and the Red Devils value him at around EUR50 million right now, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Man United want another central defender this summer following the departure of Raphael Varane at the end of 2023-24 and given the recent fitness issues of Harry Maguire, and the Netherlands international is one of many names being discussed internally alongside Everton man Jarrad Branthwaite and Lille star Leny Yoro.

- Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) June 27, 2024 The Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag has been a huge admirer of De Ligt from their days together at Ajax, and the 24-year-old can leave the Bundesliga club this summer if a suitable offer is brought to the table.
Man United have yet to table any official offer, but they are willing to splash EUR50m on the Dutchman. Bayern have a new manager in place after Vincent Kompany was appointed, and it appears the former Burnley boss is open to letting De Ligt go.
Both club and player will discuss his future after the European Championship next month, when the summer transfer window is expected to kick into full gear.
De Ligt will be a perfect addition to the Man United defence given his qualities and huge potential.
He caught the eyes of major European clubs during European games with Ajax under Ten Hag, and the Red Devils boss has what it takes to bring out the best in one of his former players.
The Bundesliga star is very confident on the ball and is an excellent passer, and his style of play fits in perfectly into what Ten Hag is trying to do at the Old Trafford club as his strength, leadership, aggressiveness, tackling and aerial ability will also come in handy.
EUR50m is a decent fee for such a player, but Bayern spent an initial EUR67m to recruit his services in July 2022 and could demand more from suitors before agreeing to sell him this summer.
