Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Uefa are right to block Jean-Clair Todibo's move to Man United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old - who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - insisted multi-club networks shouldn't be able to "shuffle assets around" if they are playing in the same competition.

The Red Devils have been blocked by Uefa from buying centre-back Todibo from INEOS-owned Nice and in a new twist, United have reportedly hired Swiss lawyer Gianpaolo Monteneri to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Speaking to Bloomberg (20 June), Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the Uefa rules are "not fair on the player and I don't see what [they] achieve".

Todibo, 24, is a full France international and made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 in the 2023-24 campaign.

Uefa right to block Todibo's Man United move, says Wyness Wyness suggested Ratcliffe should have divested his stake in Nice if he wanted to complete the transfer.

He told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "It's in the regulations.

"Ratcliffe knew about it, with his position in Nice.

"There was a lot of talk about him divesting that stake in Nice, and perhaps he should have done.

"I think it's right that these rules are in place, I understand the reasons for them being in place - and in this case, he's fallen foul of the rules."
