Report: Man United make huge Erik ten Hag transfers call after new deal is confirmed
Source:Football News,

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag will keep hold of his veto over new signings at Old Trafford, according to a report.

Erik ten Hag will reportedly keep hold of his veto over new signings at Manchester United, having had his contract at Old Trafford extended by a further 12 months. The Dutchman was heavily linked with a departure towards the end of the 2023-24 campaign due to Man United's struggles, with the team finishing down in eighth position in the Premier League table.

However, a poor season ended on a positive note, beating Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final to claim the trophy, and the success also secured a spot in the group stage of the 2024-25 Europa League.

On Wednesday, Man United announced that Ten Hag's contract at Old Trafford had been extended by a further year, with his deal now running until the summer of 2026.

It had been thought that Ten Hag's role would change to more of a head coach, with the Dutchman having a degree of control taken away from him when it comes to incomings at the club.

Ten Hag 'will keep transfer veto' However, according to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag will keep hold of his transfer veto, meaning that he will retain the final say on incomings.

Jason Wilcox arrived in April as Man United's new technical director, while Dan Ashworth has now been appointed as the club's new sporting director, and the pair will also be heavily involved in transfers.

Man United's preparations for the 2023-24 campaign will officially begin on Monday, with the players not in action for their countries this summer due back at Carrington for the start of pre-season training.

Marcus Rashford will be among those to return, with the Englishman being left out of the Three Lions squad for the European Championship, but there remains speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

Who will Man United sign this summer? Matthijs de Ligt could be Man United's first summer signing, with the Netherlands international in advanced discussions with the Red Devils over a switch from Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman could be one of two new centre-backs to arrive at Old Trafford this summer, with the Red Devils also interested in signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

Depending on the budget, a left-back could also arrive, with Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez said to be admired by the 20-time English champions.

Meanwhile, a central midfielder and a centre-forward are also priorities; Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain is being heavily linked with a switch to the Red Devils as a midfield signing, while Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee appears to be the leading target in the final third of the field.

Man United are working with a limited budget this summer, though, and there will need to be outgoings in the coming weeks to make space room for new arrivals.
