Manchester United Supporters' FC are set to play Preston North End in the 2024 British Supporters' Cup final | Manchester United Supporters' FCMan Utd fans don't have to wait until mid-August to see a Red Devils' side in cup action

In 36 days' time, Erik ten Hag's side return to competitive action when they kick off the 2024/25 campaign against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

But for fans who can't wait to see their side in action, there is a Manchester United team playing this weekend. The 2024 British Supporters' Cup final takes place on Saturday and will see United take on Preston North End at Darwen FC's Anchor Ground.

"It's always a tough game against Preston, who tend to be a good side and have won the league and the cup quite often," team manager Andrew Kilduff told ManchesterWorld. "It will be a good game of football. It's going to be a good exhibition and you can even get a beer during the game."

The 1pm kick-off could mark the perfect start to a busy day of football, with England playing Switzerland at 5pm in Euro 2024 and the match will, of course, be shown live at the ground.

United progressed to Saturday's final after topping a six-team that included Preston, Rochdale and Shrewsbury Town, before beating Partick Thistle in the quarter-finals and then eliminating Watford via a penalty shootout in the semis.

The Manchester United Supporters' team have been in existence for around 15 years and play in a nationwide league that they were crowned champions of earlier this year, meaning a league and cup double beckons this season.

The idea behind the league was for fans of different clubs to meet in the morning for a friendly kickabout prior to the professional sides playing later in the afternoon. It's a concept that doesn't always prove possible with the logistical issues of travelling and the awkward kick-off times in the Premier League. But the supporters' team does provide an opportunity for match-going United fans to represent their beloved side.

"It doesn't have to be based on ability, the team is open to everyone," Andrew explained. "Our average age is about 35 so we're always looking for new people to get involved and maybe carry the legacy with the next generation. We have a lot of people who hit their early 20s and struggle to play football and the team is for them."

Any United fans interested in joining the team can find them on Facebook or X (@musfc).

As for Saturday's final, those in attendance at Darwen should expect goals. The teams drew 6-6 when they last met in the league, and they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in the cup's league format earlier this season.

Entry is free, but donations to the Dutchy Project, a mental health charity, would be appreciated. A signed United pendant is also being auctioned off on Saturday.
