Man United reach dramatic Bruno Fernandes transfer 'agreement' as Erik ten Hag makes exit U-turn
Source:Manchester Evening

The summer transfer window is yet to kick into gear for Manchester United. Despite plenty of swirling reports and public rumours, very little of genuine effect has taken place.

With Erik ten Hag's future decided, and the contract now extended, as well as Dan Ashworth's arrival (finally), there is optimism that things might pick up. The appointment of Christopher Vivell is expected to aid this process throughout the coming two months of action.

All of this hasn't stopped attempts at business. Be it Benjamin Sesko, Jarrad Branthwaite, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, or Jean-Clair Todibo, United have remained in the mix, and that is not likely to change.

Here, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest coming from Old Trafford.

Fernandes exit Bruno Fernandes could yet be on his way out of the club this summer despite talk of an exit quietening down in recent weeks. It has been reported by TeamTalk that Saudi Pro League sides Al Nassr and Al Ittihad have made a push to sign Fernandes, and that he is open to moving to the former.

Fernandes cast doubt on his future earlier this year and it has now been written that United have not stood in his way, giving the greenlight for talks to start. It is alleged that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF - Newcastle owners) are optimistic of completing a deal.

Whilst United could see their star man leave, Fernandes is not rushing into anything and is simply looking to learn more about the proposal. MEN Sport understands that he would ideally like to stay in Manchester.

MEN Sport says: Wouldn't this be the most dramatic story of the window?! Sure, the messaging from Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is that (practically) no player is off-limits for other clubs, but Fernandes? It's a big stance to take.

As for Fernandes, he still has so much to offer. With a proper set-up around him there's no reason why he can't thrive under Hag next season. Even at 29 he is one of the few top performers and world-class stars. Does he want to give in to the Middle East allure now? It'd be disappointing, to say the least.

Casemiro U-turn Casemiro is keen to stay at Old Trafford, reports suggest. It has been claimed that having had problems in the second half of last season, the Brazilian would like to prove himself in England after a change of heart.

United's decision-makers are thought to be open to an exit for the former Real Madrid man, whilst Ten Hag is now said to be happy for the player to remain and form part of his squad for next season.

Saudi Pro League sides have been linked with Casemiro but he will now have what is described as 'showdown talks' after changing his mind and wanting to redeem himself.

MEN Sport says: Unless a new midfielder is signed, United may not have much choice with this. There is no way that Casemiro can be allowed to leave without a replacement being found.

Should someone be found, however, then Casemiro is surely the midfielder who should be allowed to go. He is on large wages and is possibly the least suited to Premier League football. At his best, sure, but a lot of things would need to change from the last 12 months if Casemiro is to go on and be an eventual success for the Red Devils.

Wanting to stay and fight, to prove a point and respond, is admirable, but does it actually help the plans at United? Perhaps there is an argument to make that Casemiro could help Kobbie Mainoo to develop, but does this justify keeping hold of someone who was largely a liability throughout 2023/24?
