Joshua Zirkzee has sent an emotional message to Bologna after completing a transfer to Manchester United.
It was confirmed on Sunday afternoon that United had completed the signing of Zirkzee on a permanent transfer from the Serie A club. Zirkzee has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with United to become the first new signing to Erik ten Hag's squad this summer.
United have agreed to pay EUR42.5million (PS36.5million) to be able to sign Zirkzee, which is EUR2.5million (PS2.2million) more than the release clause that was in his contract. The Reds will pay the fee in instalments over three years rather than in one lump sum as would have been the case with the release clause.
Zirkzee will now join Rasmus Hojlund as the second striker in United's squad ahead of the new season. The 23-year-old has now sent a message to his former employers after completing a move to Old Trafford.
Bologna signed Zirkzee from Bayern Munich in 2022 and he scored 14 goals in 58 appearances for the Italian club. Zirkzee's form helped Bologna finish fifth in Serie A last term and qualify for the Champions League in the process.
"Grazie, rossoblu. I can't really find the words to explain how much you all mean to me," Zirkzee wrote in an emotional message on Instagram.
"The stadium, the city, this team, but especially the PEOPLE will always have a special place in my heart.
"I hope, that for all the support and trust that you gave me, I have given something back in return. Bologna is finally where it belongs and I will support and cheer for you from a distance! Ti Amo [I love you], Bolo. Forever (two heart emojis]."
