Man United have eyes on AS Monaco midfielder, Youssouf Fofana, to their list of potential signings in the midfield area.
After signing a striker and centre-back, Erik ten Hag's attention now turns to adding a midfielder. The Old Trafford club were inconsistent in that area of the field last term.
Casemiro looked older. Christian Eriksen was decent. Scott McTominay scored goals but offered little else, while Mason Mount was always injured.
You get the impression that the Reds want to bring in a mobile defensive midfielder whose main job is to break up opposing attacks. Hence, the constant links to Manuel Ugarte.
Now, a new name has been thrown into the mix in the event that United cannot agree upon a price for Ugarte. It comes from CaughtOffside, who believe that Youssouf Fofana is a possible target.
According to the information, United have added the 25-year-old midfielder to their list of potential transfer options this summer.
United now plan to 'check' on Fofana's situation, as they look to find a cheaper solution to their midfield problems. The France international could cost as little as PS16.8m (20m euro).
Fofana enjoyed himself in Ligue 1 last term for AS Monaco, though the French side could be forced to sell one of their prized assets for a very reasonable fee.
With Sofyan Amrabat set to head back to Fiorentina, there is a spot in the squad for a defensive-minded midfielder who can come in and start games regularly. Fofana could fill that role and for a great price, too.
I would imagine United will have to act quickly in order to get this deal done, as other clubs will start sniffing around for his signature soon.
