The Red Devils look set for a busy transfer window

Thus far, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has very much put his money where his mouth is. Manchester United's marathon-running billionaire investor has come sprinting out of the blocks at Old Trafford, wrapping up deals for both striker Joshua Zirkzee and teenage centre-back Leny Yoro in relatively short order. But the Red Devils are only just getting started.

Alongside a mooted swoop for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, United are understood to be in the market for a new right-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka seemingly edging ever closer towards a move to Premier League rivals West Ham.

Indeed, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Red Devils have already drawn up a shortlist of prospective targets. Speaking on Monday, he said: 'Right-back is another area that we should keep an eye on with regard to Manchester United, and again, rather like the midfield area, it may require budget and squad space. The player in question here is Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He's entered the final year of his contract, United value him at around PS15 million plus, and they are, again, looking at other right-backs.

'Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong is one. Another player they are looking at is Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. Interestingly, with that player, West Ham United have held talks with Bayern Munich over Mazraoui, so it'll be interesting to see how that would work out if Manchester United managed to get Mazraoui - would that then open the door for West Ham United to go in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka? But then, if West Ham United continued these talks with Mazraoui, where would that leave Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well? There could be a little domino effect that could happen here between Manchester United and West Ham. They're also looking at Monaco's right-back, Vanderson, as well.'

Of that trio, Frimpong is arguably the most eye-catching. The Dutchman was a key component in Leverkusen's sublime unbeaten domestic campaign last term, scoring 11 goals and assisting 12 more across 37 outings, as well as registering three strikes in 10 Europa League appearances as Xabi Alonso's men finished as runners-up.

Of course, that is reflected in his price tag. According to reports, the former Celtic man could cost as much as PS60 million this summer, but then again, if United are serious about reestablishing themselves as a genuine and fearsome force in the Premier League, this is exactly the kind of signing that they must be looking to make over the coming weeks.

Frimpong won't come cheap, and it should be a reassuring sign to United fans that the club seemingly have alternative targets ready and waiting to go, but in an ideal scenario, the Leverkusen man would be the Red Devils' next summer acquisition.
