Manchester United Football Club need to sign a new midfielder this summer, as Erik ten Hag looks to continue to overhaul this playing squad.

The season is now fast approaching, with United seemingly looking at a whole host of possible options, including Manuel Ugarte and Adrien Rabiot.

Today, talkSPORT have thrown a new name into the mix; Martin Zubimendi.

According to their latest information, United have added the 25-year-old to their 'list of midfield targets' as the Reds look to bolster their options ahead of the new season.

The Spain international has a PS50m release clause in his Real Sociedad contract, which is around the sort of price that United have been quoted to sign the aforementioned Ugarte.

TalkSPORT state that United want to bolster their defensive midfield options ahead of the new season, with Zubimendi certainly fitting that role.

Zubimendi came on at half-time for Spain the European Championship final against England, putting in a monster of a performance in the middle of the park.

There can be no doubt that Zubimendi would represent a huge upgrade on the Reds' current defensive midfield options, particularly with Casemiro suddenly looking every bit like a 32-year-old whose career is now on the decline.

No doubt the Old Trafford side would face stiff competition for Zubimendi's signature this summer, while raising the necessary funds to acquire the Spaniard may have to come through player sales. It goes without saying, that could also be difficult given the super high wages that some members of this dressing room are currently on...
