Leny Yoro reveals the Man Utd game that convinced him to snub Real Madrid

Leny Yoro opted to join Manchester United despite interest from the likes of Real Madrid with the teenager having his head turned after watching them win the FA Cup

Leny Yoro admits seeing Manchester United win the FA Cup convinced him to join the Red Devils this summer.

The teenager had a host of European clubs circling but eventually chose to move to Old Trafford despite interest from Real Madrid. United had to part with more than PS50million to land the highly-rated centre-half, who wants to build on their exploits at Wembley.

United salvaged their season with victory over their neighbours Manchester City several months ago. Erik ten Hag's side were heavy underdogs going into the final but secured a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

It was their second domestic trophy in as many seasons following their Carabao Cup triumph last term. United are someway off challenging for the Premier League though, but have begun accumulating silverware under Ten Hag and their latest success turned Yoro's head.

United dodged some major scares enroute to the final as well. In the semi-final they let a 3-0 lead slip against Coventry and needed VAR to save them from losing in extra-time. They also meandered to a win over League Two Newport earlier in the competition.

Their FA Cup success ensured they will compete in Europe next term despite finishing eighth. Yoro will bolster a backline that struggled last term as injuries hampered Ten Hag's resources.

"It was like two weeks ago [when I first spoke to Rio]," Yoro explained. "He called me. First of all, I was really impressed to speak with him and, yeah, we spoke like 10 minutes about Man Utd, so he helped me a lot to make my choice. It was really an honour to speak with him.

"He spoke to me about the club, and that this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world. For me, it was really good to speak about this."
