Man Utd target prepared to take drastic action to secure dream transfer move

Manchester United have not ruled out the possibility of signing another striker this transfer window.

Goals win games, and Manchester United did not score enough in 2023/24, netting just 57 in 38 Premier League matches.

United have moved to address this in the transfer window, adding Joshua Zirkzee to the team. The Dutch international makes United more unpredictable and will bring new combinations to the attack - but alone, he may not be able to solve the goal crisis.

This is why United are considering adding another striker. According to The Athletic, Ivan Toney remains under consideration.

Toney remains at Brentford, with their high asking price proving off-putting for clubs. There are currently no bidders at their desired asking price.

Now, according to BBC Sport, Toney is considering taking drastic action to ensure he does not compromise in his choice of club.

MORE UNITED STORIES

It is being claimed that Toney is willing to wait and leave Brentford as a free agent in summer 2025 when his contract expires.

This would give Toney a greater pick of clubs, who would be intrigued at the prospect of signing a regular Premier League goalscorer on a free transfer.

At present, 28-year-old Toney is seen as an expensive option, considering his contract.

Even if there was a bid for Toney's services, he may not like the destination. He could essentially back himself, through his performances in 2024/25, to land a dream transfer move the following summer.

Manchester United uncertainty Whether Manchester United would still be interested in Ivan Toney in summer 2025 is unclear. Nor is the exact level of their interest right now.

But if Toney delivers a 20-goal season for Brentford next season, and then becomes available on a free transfer the following summer, there could be another conversation.

Much may depend on the form and progress of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, and whether United need another option.

United are also looking at signing Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin, rated as one of the best youth prospects in football.

By 2025, there is a chance he could even be pushing for the first team, reducing United's need to add a Toney, no matter how tempting the deal, while there is also a possibility the club turn to another alternative this summer instead.
