Man Utd transfer news: Bayern issue Matthijs de Ligt update as club prepare for £40m loss
Source:The Mirror:

Manchester United have accomplished the impressive signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro but still have plenty of work to do in the summer transfer window

The Red Devils are set to remain active in the summer transfer window after securing the signatures of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro in recent days.

Manchester United showed great ambition in their recruitment of the duo, even stealing Yoro away from Real Madrid whom the defender seemed fated to join.

If Erik ten Hag's side are to bounce back from their worst ever Premier League finish, more recruitment is necessary, meaning the summer is far from over.

United remain in the market for another defender, while midfield remains another area in need of bolstering, with Manuel Ugarte is the most prominent name to emerge so far.

Mirror Football takes a look at some of the biggest transfer stories surrounding the club at the moment.

And United have been provided a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax.

Munich's honorary president, Uli Hoeness, suggested that the defender will leave the club this summer. Currently the Red Devils are unwilling to pay the German giants' supposed PS42m asking price after getting the green light from De Ligt and agreeing personal terms.

Despite negotiations held at an impasse, Hoeness maintained that De Ligt could depart before deadline day.

"It's possible that a defender will leave," the Bayern chief told Sky Germany. "I would have no problem if [De Ligt] stays." Hoeness, however, then expressed his desire for De Ligt's team-mate, Dayot Upamecano, to stay. "Personally, I would not sell Upamecano."

No contact has been made between the clubs and it remains to be seen whether United will permit Sancho to leave and at what cost.

The 24-year-old winger, who cost United PS73million when he joined from Dortmund in July 2021, has not made a competitive appearance for the club since a 3-2 home win over Nottingham Forest last August after falling out of favour with manager Ten Hag.

The report also claims that Borussia Dortmund, with whom Sancho spent half of last season on loan, were eager to re-sign Sancho permanently but could not afford to do so.

Despite making 190 appearances for the Red Devils, Wan-Bissaka has been declared surplus to requirements and United are hoping to upgrade with the recruitment of Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

A potential landing spot for Wan-Bissaka this summer is West Ham. However, the Hammers are also interested in Mazraoui and will only turn to Wan-Bissaka if United beat them to the signing of the Moroccan.
