Accrington Stanley are poised to sign Manchester United youngster Sonny Aljofree on loan, according to The Mirror (live transfer blog, 30.08.24, 09:03). Accrington Stanley are set to land the prospect on a temporary basis before the end of the transfer window. They have until the deadline later this evening to get a deal over the line.

Aljofree, 19, has risen up through the academy ranks at Manchester United and has been a regular for the Premier League giants at various different youth levels to date. His contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2025 meaning they have a decision to make regarding his long-term future over the course of the next 12 months.

In this latest update regarding the defender's situation with the Red Devils, The Mirror claim on their live transfer blog on deadline day that he is heading to Stanley to get some experience under his belt. The North West side are at home to Colchester United in League Two this weekend.

A switch to Accrington Stanley will be beneficial to Aljofree's development.

He needs to get some senior game time away from Manchester United and dropping into the fourth tier means he should get regular opportunities.

He was loaned out to Altrincham in the National League during the last campaign. Their boss Phil Parkinson told their website at the time: "I'm really pleased to have secured Sonny on loan until the end of the season. It was an easy decision for me to act on Manchester United's interest to trust us with another one of their young players.

"He'll provide cover and competition for Coops with James being out for the rest of the season. He's a fantastic person and a player I'm really looking forward to working with again."

John Doolan's side finished 17th in the table last term. They lost 3-1 away at Newport County last time out.
