The third season of Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United reign ended just nine games into the Premier League season following his sides 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday.
The Dutchman's time at Old Trafford has been far from smooth sailing. Following a successful first campaign in England, United's performance have been on a downward trajectory.
The 22/23 season saw Ten Hag pick up his first piece of silverware in English football, guiding The Red Devils to Carabao Cup glory with a 2-0 win against Newcastle United in the final.
The trophy coincided with a third place Premier League finish, meaning the Theatre of Dreams would once again play host to Champions League football.
Unfortunately, the campaign was left on a sour note. The FA Cup final saw United beaten by bitter rivals Manchester City 2-1, a trophy which would go towards the Citizens' treble winning season.
As the 23/24 season rolled around, it would be a huge ask for the Reds to better their previous campaign.
United did the complete opposite of improvement, and recorded their worst ever Premier League season, finishing eighth, recording 60 points and losing 14 of the 38 games.
Silverware would follow a poor season however. Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho would score to sink Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final as revenge was gained for last seasons defeat.
It looked as though the final would have been Ten Hag's last game as rumours surrounded the 54-year-old, but many believe the victory bought him more time.
The 24/25 season would signal the end of Erik's time in Manchester.
After starting the season with a 1-0 win at home to Fulham, fortunes would change and the side would only win three games in their next 12 fixtures.
Sunday's controversial 2-1 loss to West Ham United was enough for INEOS to take action and begin the search for a new manager, as a new era dawns in M16.
During his tenure as boss, Ten Hag stamped his own identity on the squad with his signings.
A notable trend was players joining who he had managed at Ajax, bringing in members of the squad who already had belief in the boss following his success with the Dutch giants.
These incomings included, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Noussair Mazraoui, Andre Onana and Matthijs De ligt who all played a part in their 18/19 Champions League semi-final run.
Acquisitions for the Reds also included Rasmus Hojlund, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Casemiro.
On paper, all these signings bought excitement to Manchester United fans all around the world but have not bought the success that should have followed given the expectations.
Injuries have plagued the squad with many of his signings being unavailable for long periods of time, as crisis struck the team and Ten Hag continuously had a selection headache on a weekly basis.
Youth Development One of the main positives Ten Hag left at United is his development and belief in young players, namely Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.
Mainoo and Garnacho thrived under their recent boss, with the academy graduates being named 3rd and 6th respectively in the Kopa Trophy rankings at last nights Ballon D'or ceremony.
Amad Diallo was given an opportunity at the back end of the 23/24 season and grasped it, firmly becoming a great option on the right wing with his talent.
The development of the three mentioned and many other young stars has set the club up for years to come should they continue their growth at the rate they currently are.
United has always been a club defined by it's youth development and talent, and the Dutch man truly embodied that and carried on the tradition.
The former FC Twente man has not had an easy managerial career in England and will look to bounce back wherever his next job may be.
Despite this, he has left the club with many positives and for that, Manchester united fans around the world can say thank you to Erik Ten Hag.
