Ruben Amorim is now preparing for his first game as Manchester United boss, away to Ipswich Town.
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is set to hold his first training session on November 18, ahead of his first fixture on the 24th.
Amorim has pledged 'we will be ready' for the fixture, and promised to start building Manchester United's new identity.
It was March 2020 that Amorim took over at Sporting.
We looked back at his comments ahead of his opening match, a 2-0 win over Desportivo Aves, and there were two key messages he wanted to get across.
He only had two days with the players before his game as opposed to a week - yet at Manchester United, many of the international players will only have a couple of days of training at Carrington.
Speaking in 2020, Amorim explained: "I clearly felt that the players were open to new ideas, but you can't get everything across in two days and that can create some confusion among the players, which is normal.
MORE UNITED STORIES"The important thing is that I felt that they were open to a new game model and we will have time to work on it.
We had two very good days, but we know that this will not be reflected in the first game.
The important thing is to win.
"Amorim did win his first game, and while he may be more confident in terms of his coaching methods and ability to implement a new structure, tactics and mindset, it is likely he takes a similarly pragmatic approach at Manchester United too.
Age is just a number Ruben Amorim became known for handing debuts to many of Sporting's young talents, including the likes of Goncalo Inacio and Nuno Mendes.
Prior to his first match, he pledged to show a commitment to youth, and would not be afraid to select young players if he felt they deserved it.
But he also insisted that he needed wins under his belt first, to enable the young stars to make the step up into a team that could offer a winning environment.
Amorim said: "I think it is important to create a good dynamic in the team because to be fair to these young players we have to win, play well and only then play them.
"Age doesn't matter and when you have quality, that's what matters.
I didn't call these players to training to say that I'm playing young players.
I do it when they are better than the others and, when that happens, they will certainly play.
"There are lots of young prospects Amorim could promote at Manchester United, but don't expect him to go crazy during the first month, when United face some tough games against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle.
If the team can round into form, then Amorim may be open to handing opportunities to the likes of Harry Amass, Bendito Mantato and co, if he feels the time is right.
His record at Sporting proved he would back up his initial words, and United's academy prospects will be encouraged.
