Rio Ferdinand tells ex-Manchester City man ‘I want your medal’ if titles are stripped

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand wants another Premier League medal to add to his collection.

Manchester United were beaten to the Premier League title in 2011/12 on goal difference in the most agonising of circumstances.

But 11 years on, there are questions over whether Manchester City's last gasp title win will remain in the record books.

City are currently subject of a Premier League investigation with 115 charges hanging over them, and The Times reports 'Relegation now looks [a] very real prospect'.

Many, including Everton themselves, believe this sets a precedent for action against Manchester City.

Rio Ferdinand spoke on Five, to say he will be reaching out to his pal, former City defender Joleon Lescott.

MORE UNITED STORIES

He said: "If anything happens with City, I'm ringing Lescott up. Joleon I want YOUR medal, hand delivered to my house, and I'm wearing it."

Questioned if the title would actually be awarded to United, if it was stripped from City, Ferdinand said he would be seeking Lescott's medal regardless.

"He can't have it. He might as well give it to me then."

Not the first time Rio has demanded extra medal Rio Ferdinand discussed the topic earlier this year when City were first charged by the Premier League back in February.

He told Five back in February. He said: "I want to see how this City situation pans out. I could have seven league titles at this rate, seven and not six."

Ferdinand certainly has a medal collection anyone would be envious of, but you can't blame him for wanting another, if it is judged City's is not legitimate. Nothing will replace the misery United suffered that day in 2012, but it would be seen on the red side of Manchester as justice being done.
