'Of course': Manchester City star wants to block wonderkid from signing for Manchester United

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva claims he will 'of course' try to stop Benfica midfielder Joao Neves from joining Manchester United.

United may well look to bring in another midfielder in 2024.

There are some doubts about the future of Casemiro amid claims Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be open to selling him.

Sofyan Amrabat is only on loan from Fiorentina and has yet to really prove that he should be signed permanently.

United seem to have some midfield targets in mind with Benfica talent Joao Neves emerging as one of them.

Bernardo Silva wants to stop Joao Neves joining Manchester United Neves has been linked with United throughout this season.

The Sun claim that Erik ten Hag has instructed United to keep close tabs on Neves this season.

90min described United as 'long-term admirers' of Neves last week, having scouted him in action for Benfica against rivals Sporting.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Manchester City were described in the same way though, meaning we could see a real battle for Neves in 2024.

City playmaker Bernardo Silva - a former Benfica talent himself - has now suggested that he wants to stop Neves joining United.

Speaking to Mais Futebol in Portugal, Bernardo suggested that, if he can, he will try to convince Neves to snub United for a move to City instead.

"Am I going to put a wedge in so he doesn't go to United and divert him to City? If I can, I'll put a wedge in, of course I will," said Bernardo.

Bruno told the Portuguese media that he would 'love' to see Neves join him at Old Trafford.

Here we go then; the charm offensive is well and truly starting.

Neves will now have Bruno telling him to join United and Bernardo attempting to take him to the other side of Manchester.

Maybe both City and United will end up missing out, but it looks like a real tug-of-war is on the cards with Neves potentially facing a big decision over his future.

Let's just hope that United skipper Bruno can be a little more tempting than Bernardo!
