Report: Ten Hag now facing January headache as £50m Man Utd player receives international proposal

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has received a new approach to represent the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Erik ten Hag is already facing a potential problem in January with Andre Onana set to play at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Onana is expected to be in the Cameroon squad, taking him out of action for up to a month.

Altay Bayindir will then have to step up, with the summer signing waiting patiently for his first-team opportunity.

Ten Hag may now have to deal with another absence though, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is weighing up an offer...

Aaron Wan-Bissaka wanted by DR Congo The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that United right back Wan-Bissaka has been approached by the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

It's stated that Wan-Bissaka has yet to make a decision but is now weighing up switching his international allegiance.

Wan-Bissaka hails from Croydon and picked up three caps for the England Under-21's.

MORE UNITED STORIES

The 25-year-old is of Congolese descent and even played for the DR Congo Under-20's way back in 2015, long before his PS50million move to Old Trafford.

Having failed to earn even a single cap for England, Wan-Bissaka is now giving real consideration to accepting his call-up.

Boss Sebastien Desabre indicated in September that he was interested in Wan-Bissaka and the offer is now on the table.

There are some notable players in the DR Congo squad, starting with captain and Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba, who some fans may remember from his time at Newcastle United.

Ex-Chelsea talent Gael Kakuta features in the squad, as do Championship stars Edo Kayembe and Grady Diangana.

One Premier League star should join Wan-Bissaka in the squad - if he accepts - with Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa a key player.

Luton Town's Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu could be involved too, as may ex-West Ham United left back Arthur Masuaku.

This isn't a star-studded squad but Wan-Bissaka may well feel that he can help DR Congo - and leave Ten Hag with a defensive problem come January.
