Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a PS25 million January deal for Raphael Varane with the defender now out of favour at Premier League giants Manchester United.

Well, Erik ten Hag cannot say he does not have the club's backing, at least when it comes to Manchester United's current personnel. First, there was Cristiano Ronaldo, his contract terminated a year ago this week after he went blabbing to Piers Morgan.

Then Jadon Sancho, a PS73 million asset exiled from the first-team picture. Raphael Varane now looks set to become the latest victim of Ten Hag's ruthless streak, The Sun reporting that the World Cup winner has been left 'stunned' by his sudden removal from the United XI.

"Nobody saw this coming at the start of the season. It was made clear he was a key part of the team and would be a vital player for the club and the manager moving forward.

"Raphael was delighted with that. He'd settled in well in Manchester. He loves the club and the fans. And (he) fully expected to see out the final chapter of his career at Old Trafford."

Bundesliga champions keen With interest from Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia, Varane is unlikely to be short of offers. According to the Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are keen to strike a PS25 million January deal. Varane's wages, however, will pose a problem.

PS25 million for a soon-to-be 31-year-old centre-half who has endured his fair share of injuries since arriving at Old Trafford? From a business perspective, this is a deal which makes plenty of sense. Especially if Jean-Clair Todibo could be brought in from Nice for a similar fee.
