'I have to be ambitious': £35m star ready to leave Man Utd in January

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has revealed his desire to leave the club in the quest for regular playing time.

The Netherlands international is currently in his fourth season with the Red Devils but he has made just six league starts for the club.

In the current season, he has played only 27 minutes thus far and he has now acknowledged that it is time to pursue a new challenge.

In an interview quoted by Mirror, the Dutchman said that the manager is making different choices and he will evaluate his future in January.

The former Ajax man added that he needs to start playing games very soon and he may have to be ambitious and leave the Red Devils.

He said: "I am bouncing to play matches again. The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We'll see in January what happens."

"I need to start playing games very soon - if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious. I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.

"Last season I was sidelined for months due to my knee injury. You miss it terribly. I appreciate even more that I have a fabulous job. But I am bursting with energy now that I am top fit again and I am really training like an animal. The time has come to make a different choice."

Van de Beek looks set to leave in January The 26-year-old joined the Red Devils for an initial PS35 million more than three years ago. It was anticipated that he would be a brilliant box-to-box midfielder for the club.

However, he has simply failed to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Van de Beek has registered just two goals and two assists from 62 appearances for United.

He should have left the club after his recovery from a knee injury last summer and in our view, there is no reason for United to keep him beyond the January transfer window.

His valuation has been dropping with every passing month with the lack of game time and the Red Devils need to cut their losses on him at the beginning of the New Year.

United are scheduled to face Everton on the road tomorrow. Van de Beek has been absent from the squad lately. The same could happen after his recent comments.
