'That is an issue for me' - Adam Pope worried about in-form Leeds star branded 'Rubbish' at Leicester

Georginio Rutter's shooting ability is "an issue" for Leeds United despite his winner at Leicester City, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC journalist said on Don't Go To Bed Just Yet on 6 November that the in-form French star "doesn't shoot well" and "drags" his attempts too often, even though the club-record signing had netted the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win at the league leaders on 3 November.

Simon Rix had suggested that amid criticism of striker Joel Piroe's quiet performances it has gone unnoticed that Rutter's shots at the King Power were largely "rubbish", before Pope picked up on the same point.

During a debate about the use of Piroe and Rutter Rix said (10m 50s): "Neither of them are really playing [as a] 10. They both did the same amount of stuff, like Georginio had some shots but they were rubbish, but no-one's talking about those because of his all-round play."

Pope then asked: "Is that an issue for Rutter? Technically he doesn't shoot well, at times. Great with the goal, I know, I get that, his first for a while, but that is an issue for me. He drags the shots."

Jonny Buchan then cut in to end any negative talk: "Let's not. Let's leave that for another week when he's missed some good chances, because this week it needs to be about how much he deserved that goal."

Weak point

There isn't much to complain about from a Leeds United point of view based on the recent form of Daniel Farke's side, but Piroe's lack of impact lately is certainly one.

Rutter's finishing is far from perfect and whether it is a technical or a mental correction he needs to make there is definitely room for a lot of improvement.

However, he is making up for that deficiency with his overall game as his support play is proving extremely valuable, so much so that it is easy to forget that just a few months ago he was seen as a raw youngster who might never prove his worth at Elland Road.

He now has three goals and five assists this season, and it has been suggested that whatever he does it won't be enough while he is in the second tier.

It may have been a rebound into an open net but, when goal-threat is seen as the primary weakness in his game, he can't be criticised for proving the difference against Leicester.

Piroe has five to his name so far but just one since September, and while he has hardly been a flop under Farke he isn't offering the same sort of build-up play that Rutter is.

While the French youngster is heavily involved all over the pitch games have seemed to pass the Dutchman by recently.

If Farke can solve the conundrum of how to use the two to maximum effect then there is no telling how much more effective this side can be.

In other Leeds United news, a "believe it or not" update on a possible high-level Elland Road appointment has emerged after fans at a rival club were left "unhappy".
