Two Newcastle United players have been flirting with an international call-up in the last six months, but this now looks very unlikely to happen.
Former Newcastle assistant John Carver has been working with Scotland for the last four years and has frequently been asked about if they are looking at some options at Newcastle
Speaking at a press conference ahead of this week's friendlies, Carver claimed that he was 'sick' of speaking about the likes of Anthony Gordon and Elliot Anderson who both qualify to play for Scotland.
Newcastle duo now unlikely to play for Scotland As the season began Gordon looked to get off to a bright start for Newcastle, and after being snubbed by England for the first three international windows of the season questions were asked about his international future.
The winger qualifies to play for both England and Scotland so could have enjoyed more regular international football with Steve Clarke's side if Gareth Southgate continued not to pick him.
Of course, he has now earned his way into the Three Lions squad and is hoping to be part of the team that travels to Germany for the Euros this summer.
Anderson is another who could play for both and has done for the youth international teams, though he has is not yet committed to either's senior teams having previously pulled out of the Scotland squad.
It does now look unlikely for the midfielder, at least for this summer, as Carver claimed he would be 'very surprised' if any new faces were brought on at this ate stage.

Speaking on the Newcastle pair, Carver said: "I would be very surprised [if anyone came into the group] because loyalty is massive. We are almost settled on what we are going to take away.
"I would be very surprised if somebody comes out from nowhere. We are more or less settled. Unless we find somebody who is like 'wow', an outstanding player.
"I am not going to go down this street of Anderson and Gordon and all this lot because I have had enough of that, I am sick of talking about that. If somebody comes from nowhere, I would be very surprised. But we are looking at all the options for now and, obviously, for the future because we have to take it further again after the Euros."
Having won player of the tournament at the Under-21 Euros in the summer, the winger made it his number one aim at the start of the Premier League campaign to become a first-team player for the Three Lions.
Gordon will now be hoping to make his debut in the next week as England face Brazil and Belgium as part of their final preparations for this summer's tournament.
Playing with such elite players internationally is sure to benefit the attacker who could return to Newcastle next season an even more experienced and developed star.
