Newcastle United will be hoping for some positive news on the injury front after being dealt two major blows during the international break. Sven Botman has been ruled out until the end of 2024 following ACL surgery, while Lewis Miley is also facing a spell on the sidelines due to a back injury sustained while playing for England Under20s.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe provided an update on both players. Regarding Miley's condition, he stated that they are seeking specialist opinion and currently do not have full clarity about his exact issue. As for Botman's seasonending injury, Howe described it as a big blow and explained that there were conflicting reports from specialists earlier in the season before ultimately deciding on surgery.
"Ultimately, medical team advised him to get surgery but he wanted to carry on. He has then aggravated that issue. He now has a long road ahead of him, the operation went well. We hope he comes back in a better place. Now we support him and help him back."
The duo will miss Newcastle's upcoming Premier League match against West Ham United at St James' Park this Saturday (12:30pm kickoff). However, there is a possibility that Tino Livramento, Harvey Barnes, and Kieran Trippier could return from minor injury setbacks that kept them out of the Manchester City game.
"Yeah possibly [they could play], is what I'll say. Let's wait and see."
