The Magpies' No.9 hasn't featured since the 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest on February 10 after sustaining a pectoral injury which required surgery. Wilson has been ruled out for two months but has been filmed back in training alongside teammates by the Sky Sports News cameras.

He was spotted alongside the likes of Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes as Eddie Howe's side have a week to prepare for next Wednesday's Premier League clash away to Crystal Palace.

In a season disrupted by injuries, Wilson has started just 11 matches but has a decent goal return of eight. Meanwhile, fellow striker Isak has scored 21 times in all competitions this campaign - becoming the first player to do so since Alan Shearer.

Howe has rarely had both strikers available at the same time this season. While Wilson's injury issues are well highlighted, Isak has also suffered with a groin issue which has caused him to miss 10 matches in total.

Wilson is eyeing a late push into Gareth Southgate's England squad for this summer's Euros in Germany.

"We hoped he could carry on and he felt good. He was moving his arm at full strength but when he went to see a specialist, it was apparent quite early on that he needed it operated on and he's having that as we speak.

"It's no doubt a big blow to him because I think he's looking at various things. His first priority has always been Newcastle and he feels it has been a stop start season for him. He takes that burden of being one of our two strikers very seriously and he's desperate to do well and score goals.

"He was very disappointed in that perspective and he had England on the horizon as well so we hope he'll be back before the end of the season."
