England manager Gareth Southgate has been really impressed with one Newcastle United player's work rate this season.

Gareth Southgate has been keeping a close eye on goings on at Newcastle United, as he ponders who to include in his England squad for Euro 2024.

Kieran Trippier feels nailed on to be included, providing he recovers from injury in time. The 33-year-old is currently out with a calf problem, but is due to return against Brighton on May 11th.

Southgate has recently spoke glowingly about Trippier, and will likely lean on his leadership and experience skills when the Three Lions head to Germany.

The 53-year-old has also been impressed with Anthony Gordon, who made his England debut in March. He started the 1-0 defeat to Brazil, while he also came off the bench in a 2-2 draw with Belgium.

Gordon made quite the impression at international level, and is well-placed to be included in Southgate's squad for the Euros.

What Gareth Southgate likes about Anthony Gordon The 23-year-old has really impressed Southgate this season, and the England manager has explained to NUFC TV why he decided to hand Gordon his debut earlier this year.

"Consistency, for a start," he said.

"He has been outstanding all year. We were able to see him in the Champions League games, which, of course, is very similar to our world, knockout games against top-level opponents.

"Then the fact that he is weighing in with goals is important, but also the work he does off the ball. He works tirelessly for the team, and I think we saw that in our games in March as well.

"We were very pleased with what he did."

Work rate is his foundation at Newcastle United As Southgate says, Gordon works tirelessly for Newcastle United. And that incredible work rate has laid the foundation for what is going to be an outstanding Toon career.

The former Everton winger puts in the hard yards and puts in the effort out of possession, which is a key reason why he has gone on to be successful under Eddie Howe. Gordon has bought into the Newcastle philosophy, and is now reaping the rewards.

There is no substitute for hard work, and the Toon fans recognise that. That is why we cheer a big tackle as if it was a goal, rising to acknowledge the effort our players are putting in.

In turn, that work off the ball has allowed Gordon to be more successful on it. He is getting possession in dangerous areas, and has become a major contributor in the final third.

His output this season has been excellent, with Gordon boasting 11 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Gordon has been wonderfully consistent as Southgate says, playing at a very high level for the entire campaign. That is why he has been Newcastle's best player, and why he has a great chance of going to the Euros.
