Chelsea have developed quite an annoying habit lately of always being in the mix when Newcastle United show any sort of interest in a transfer target.

One one hand it shows that our scouting network is definitely looking in the right places, but on the other hand it makes an already tricky process of signing players just that little bit more difficult.

Chelsea have already beaten Newcastle to one signing this summer as Tosin Adarabioyo rejected Newcastle's contract offer in favour of Chelsea.

Yesterday it came out that Chelsea were now also interested in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for whom Newcastle had reportedly made a PS35million bid.

Enzo Maresca is happy with Robert Sanchez at Chelsea

Those reports have since been refuted, but time will tell. Should the reports be true, though, it now seems as though Chelsea will not be competing with Newcastle for the Georgian's signature after all.

New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has told the board that he likes current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and is in no rush to replace him, which means they will now likely back off from their interest in Mamardashvili.

There's still plenty of other business to be done this summer that Chelsea could try and ruin, so there's no doubt in my mind we'll be seeing their name pop up again soon.

Newcastle have a few options in mind for a new goalkeeper If Maresca's love of Sanchez is to be believed, then it could also mean that Chelsea may drop their interest in Filip Jorgensen and James Trafford too who are two other goalkeepers Newcastle are looking towards this summer as Eddie Howe looks to add depth to his squad.

Howe seems set to continue with Nick Pope as his number one which could massively impact who the Magpies bring in this summer as it's unlikely that someone like Mamardashvili or Jorgensen would be willing to come in and sit on the bench.

It may even be a stretch to convince James Trafford to come in as second-choice in all honesty.
