Sky Sports reported on Thursday that Newcastle United were one of six clubs at risk of losing big stars before the end of the month to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

We called it out yesterday as being a load of tripe.

While we don't dispute the fact that Newcastle are probably cutting it fine when it comes to the PSR limits this year, there's never been a real suggestion that we had to sell to comply before the end of the reporting year.

It's doubtful we'll be spending much money before the 1st July when the new PSR reporting year starts unless we happen to sell players before then, but to suggest we'd have to flog someone like Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes to come back under the limit is ridiculous.

Sky Sports claimed that Newcastle along with Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Nottingham Forest and newly-promoted Leicester City, would have to sell big players before the end of the month.

This report has now, according to The Shields Gazette, been removed from all of Sky Sports' social media channels.

There's been no indication as to why, but we imagine it's because they've been made aware that it is pure speculation and utter garbage.

Newcastle United didn't respond to the inaccurate report but they didn't get away scot-free The Shields Gazette claims that Newcastle United didn't respond to the report, however, we spotted on X last night that one of their journalists did call them out with Liam Kennedy putting the record straight on what Darren Eales had actually said about selling stars.

It was a key part of Sky Sports' report that Darren Eales had said that Newcastle would have to sell stars to comply with FFP, which is in fact, not what he said at all.

So we applaud Liam Kennedy for calling this out, and if you click the tweet above you will see that Sky Sports' post is now deleted.
