Newcastle United may have ended their toxic relationship with Mike Ashley in October 2021, but there were still lasting reminders of his turbulent ownership.

Since PIF, PCP Capital Partners and the Rueben brothers completed the takeover of Newcastle, the club's trajectory has only been positive.

The Magpies remarkably escaped relegation during the 2021/22 campaign following Eddie Howe's appointment as manager, and the club have not had to worry about the trap door to the Championship since.

Before Newcastle's takeover, the supporters felt numb and disillusioned with the club. It wasn't enjoyable and Ashley failed to propel the club up the Premier League despite its vast potential. Thankfully Newcastle's loyal supporters can now look to a more positive future.

Newcastle's owners have worked hard to get rid of any reminders of Ashley's time in charge of the club, and the last remnant of a torrid time has finally been removed from the stadium now.

The former owner also changed the famous 'Newcastle United' sign on St James' Park's East Stand to match the Sports Direct font in a further dagger to Geordie hearts.

But the 'Newcastle United' sign on the East Stand of St James' Park which Ashley changed, has finally been removed.

The previous shirt sponsor, Castore, did accompany the sign. With their logo on either side of 'Newcastle United.'The Magpies now head into the new season with a new shirt sponsor in Adidas, one that brings nostalgia, having originally sponsored the club between 1995 and 2010.

It is expected that the 'Newcastle United' sign will be returned to its former glory ahead of the 2024/25 season, in a change that allows supporters to rid themselves of any reminders of the Mike Ashley era.

I rarely tell an athlete "good luck." If I know a football player well, I'm more likely to say, "Go out there and give it your all!"
