Could Anthony Gordon Replace Luis Díaz at Liverpool?
Source: Anfield Index

There were certainly a few rumblings on the final day of June, as the PSR deadline for that financial period meant that a handful of Premier League clubs had to sell one or two assets, to avoid points deductions in the forthcoming season.

Liverpool's Transfer Moves Regarding Liverpool, my hope was that Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards would be tempted by Leeds United's sensation, Archie Gray. Despite my wants, that deal was passed up upon and the 18-year-old future England International eventually landed at White Hart Lane, as Tottenham swooped to secure his signature. The Reds, however, were linked with another player which seems to have split the fan base, in terms of his worthiness to attain a move to Anfield. The name of that player is of course Anthony Gordon, the Newcastle winger who was signed only a year ago from fellow Merseyside neighbours, Everton.

Photo: IMAGO Enquiries and Shortlists I suspect that following the appointment of the new Anfield CEO, Michael Edwards, as well as his Sporting Director, Richard Hughes, there would have been several enquiries made to multiple clubs regarding players of interest. What we learned last summer is that there was never a deep shortlist a potential recruit, therefore, a couple of signings that were made appeared to be a reaction to losing the bidding war for the former Brighton enforcer, Moises Caicedo. Despite being an attractive and exciting prospect, the 23-year-old Liverpool supporter, Anthony Gordon, is not a viable Luis Diaz replacement and I believe if a deal was to be done, such a transaction is not likely until next summer. Despite only signing for the Geordies last year, Eddie Howe and his respective executives were only able to complete the deal with a three-year contract.
