Newcastle United have been urged to make a move for Manchester City forward Liam Delap with his exit reportedly imminent.

City boss Pep Guardiola is expecting a slew of bids for the 21-year-old forward who made his senior debut aged 17.

Delap was reportedly spotted at Ipswich's training ground last week as they continue their summer recruitment drive following their promotion to the Premier League.

Another newly promoted side, Southampton are also reportedly interested in the Citizens winger who has impressed in loan spells at Championship clubs.

The Magpies are keen on bringing in a new forward to act as backup for Alexander Isak with Callum Wilson set to depart the club this summer.

The lad has potential and interest from Premier League clubs proves it.

During his time in Man City's youth team, he scored 32 goals in as many appearances.

Delap is one of the options the Magpies could consider when looking for a backup striker - Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also been mentioned and discussions took place for the player but as it stands a move is yet to materialise.

Newcastle urged to take a "very sensible punt" on Liam Delap Talking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, host Andrew Musgrove said: "If Newcastle were to keep Callum Wilson, which I think there's a strong possibility they might do, I wouldn't be against Newcastle going after someone like Liam Delap, who's at Manchester City, spent last year on loan at Hull and scored eight goals.

"There is a PS20 million price tag on his head and Southampton have been linked - there is huge potential there.

"He's tipped to really become a star. We've seen with Man City that sometimes there just isn't space for these youngsters and they have to go elsewhere - Cole Palmer being a being a prime example,

"Southampton have got history at picking other players from Man City up and taking them down to the South Coast such. Romeo Lavia is one of them who ended up going to Chelsea for for ridiculous amounts after a good spell at Southampton.

"I would be in favour of Liam Delap becoming that third striker. He's young, he can learn from Isak and Wilson. He can also play out on the right wing.

"PS20 million I think, would be a very sensible punt. The people you speak to say he's got massive ability, he's raw, but they are definitely signs that he could be a top top striker. That for me would be the young striker I would go for if they're going to keep Wilson alongside Isak."
