Newcastle United have two current representatives on England's side in tonight's Euro 2024 final and three former Magpies in the squad for Spain.

Mikel Merino, Joselu and Ayoze Perez are all in Spain's squad as they gear up to take on England in the final of Euro 2024 tonight. It's highly unlikely that any of the three will be starting, but we may see one or two of them in action during tonight's game which kicks off at 8pm.

All three former Newcastle players have played at least some part in getting Spain to the final and to be honest, if England are going to lose the final tonight, it would be mint craic if we went down to a Joselu goal.

On the England side, we have current players in the form of Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon looking to get some action in the biggest game since England were beaten by Italy three years ago.

Untitled 2024 07 14 T140216 913 Former Magpies out to ruin England's night Southgate to stick with the same side that beat the Netherlands The Telegraph have reported today that Gareth Southgate, international man of mystery and danger and master of the unexpected is to name an unchanged side from the one that overcame the Netherlands on Wednesday night.

That means Newcastle's Kieran Trippier will be starting tonight. Tripps only played the first 45 minutes last time out as he was carrying a knock, but we'll see how long he gets tonight before Southgate brings on Luke Shaw - note how I have left no room for doubt there, he absolutely WILL swap Trippier for Shaw at some point because that's what he does.

Less likely to feature tonight will be Anthony Gordon who must have done an Amber Heard on Southgate's pillow or something and is still stuck on just one official minute of game time, we'd prefer to count it as five minutes given he played four minutes of extra time, but that's now how the record books work.

The nerves are starting to kick in a bit now It's going to be a tense night for England fans. There's an optimism brewing by the looks of social media, but it's not one I share in, unfortunately.

Obviously, I'd be delighted if football were to come home, and I may even pay a compliment to Gareth Southgate if we do, but Spain in that first half against France looked unstoppable.

Fortunately, much like England, they went to sleep a bit in the second half. If England can keep pressing for 90 minutes, we could nick this. Not too long to go until we find out.
