Graham Potter highlighted Eddie Howe's revival at Newcastle United while discussing a potential football return.
Chelsea axed the 49-year-old in April 2023 after just seven months at the helm. Potter earned praise for his style at Brighton and was the first appointment of Todd Boehly's ownership.
The Blues have moved through three managers since while Potter has sat on the sidelines. His hiatus has drawn parallels to Howe's sabbatical from the game following his Bournemouth departure.
After relegation in 2020, the Toon boss bought a camper van to enjoy time with his family. From a professional viewpoint, Howe also visited several coaches across Europe to further his football understanding.
Potter who, also like Howe, has been linked with the England job, name-checked Newcastle when opening up about his future ambitions.
Unai Emery - ridiculed following his brief stint at Arsenal - who is now leading Aston Villa and regarded as one of the Premier League's best managers.
"It wasn't so long ago that Eddie Howe left Bournemouth after they had been relegated. He took 18 months out and now he's at Newcastle doing brilliant things.
"If you look at Unai Emery, how he was received after leaving Arsenal and look at what he's doing now. I see it (Chelsea job) as an unbelievable experience that I've had. It didn't go as well as I'd have liked."
