Anthony Gordon was the star of the show as Newcastle United drew to Manchester City in the Premier League.

Newcastle United bounced back emphatically from their "awful" defeat to Fulham last week to take points off the reigning Premier League champions.

Performances have been disappointing this season but Eddie Howe's side looked back to their energetic best against City and no one put in more effort than Anthony Gordon.

The 23-year-old, who is set to sign a new six-year deal with Newcastle, led the line in Alexander Isak's injury absence and didn't give City an inch of breathing space.

City took the lead through Josko Gvardiol but Newcastle drew level after the break when Anthony Gordon won a penalty and then calmly converted from the spot.

The first came in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth back in February and the second against Manchester City on Saturday.

It means he boasts a 100 percent record from the spot in the Premier League, but it doesn't exactly make him a penalty-taking specialist.

Instead, Gordon is actually a penalty-winning specialist. The Premier League revealed in their match report that Gordon has now won seven penalties since the beginning of last season.

It was also pointed out by Statman Dave on X that Gordon has won seven penalties since completing his PS45m move to Newcastle in January 2023.

That is more than twice as many as any other Premier League player during that time. Diogo Jota, Eddie Nketiah, Ollie Watkins and Raheem Sterling all rank second with three.

Anthony Gordon is returning to his best Gordon was flawless on Saturday. A week after being criticised for his "shocking" body language against Fulham, there can be no complaints about his application or work ethic against City.

Micah Richards was wowed by Gordon's "relentless" display, which included a staggering 33 sprints against City.

He endured a tough start to the season, but Howe pointed out that Gordon is returning to peak fitness, and hopefully, that means he is also getting close to replicating the incredible form he showed last season.

Newcastle find themselves seventh in the Premier League table and the performance against City suggests they are only now getting into top gear.

Better performances - and more good results - should follow.
