Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that the club are going to be without another key player for a number of weeks due to injury.

The Magpies are seriously struggling right now with injuries, and have various players who are out long-term. It is unclear when Sven Botman will be back in a Newcastle shirt, while Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy are beginning extended spells on the sidelines.

Another recent casualty has been Alexander Isak, who has not featured since the defeat to Borussia Dortmund at St James' Park due to a groin injury. However, he is looking to return for the Magpies after the international break when they face Chelsea on November 25th.

That is excellent news, and it is even more important after Eddie Howe's concerning update on the fitness of Callum Wilson.

Eddie Howe provides disappointing Callum Wilson injury update After being forced off during the defeat to Dortmund away from home, Wilson was a doubt for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

That led to him missing the 2-0 defeat, and Eddie Howe has admitted that he was nowhere near being available for the game against the Cherries.

After the game, Howe spoke to NUFC TV, where he was asked about Wilson's status.

"I don't think Callum will be fit for a period of time," he said.

It was always going to be tough for the 31-year-old. He has always had injury problems, and his fitness was always going to be put to the test given the volume of high calibre games.

Now the joint-top scorer is going to be out of action, which makes it all the more vital that Isak is fit and ready to face Chelsea after the international break.

Newcastle desperately need the 24-year-old, as they prepare for two games a week up until the end of the year. Howe's squad is stretched right now, but this may only be the beginning ahead of a relentless run of fixtures...
