Xeka is being offered to Newcastle United with Rafael Benitez potentially missing out on the free agent midfielder.
Newcastle United are being offered the chance to sign free agent midfielder Xeka amid their ongoing injury crisis.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who suggest that Eddie Howe is being given the opportunity to land Xeka on a free transfer.
The Magpies are without Sandro Tonali following his suspension, whilst fellow midfielder Elliot Anderson is out too.
Teenager Lewis Miley started on Saturday with Bruno Guimaraes banned, so Newcastle may be tempted to add another midfielder.
Newcastle United offered chance to sign Xeka TEAMtalk now report that Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign free agent Xeka.
The 28-year-old midfielder is without a club having been let go by Rennes at the end of last season.
Xeka played more than 100 league games for Lille but then suffered an injury-hit time with Rennes following a 2022 move.
Now looking to find another club, Newcastle are being made aware of Xeka's availability given that he can be signed outside of the transfer window.
The problem here is that Newcastle have already registered the full 25 players as per Premier League rules, so there is no room for a new arrival.
It's unlikely that Newcastle would receive any special permission despite Tonali's ban, so Xeka would have to wait until January to play anyway.
The move appears to have collapsed though, especially with Xeka's agents now offering him elsewhere.
A move to Celta would see Xeka sign for former Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez, who took the job in the summer.
Celta sit 18th in La Liga with one win from 13 games, leaving Benitez under immense pressure.
The Spaniard may believe that Xeka can help his cause, but Newcastle may now leave him empty-handed.
