Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier was involved in some unsavoury scenes at the end of Saturday night's defeat to Bournemouth.

After a frustrating evening on the south coast to cap off a fairly miserable week following the Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund, Trippier was involved in a heated exchange with a fan.

The England international appeared to be telling the supporter that the team had given everything while also pointing to the sheer number of injuries Newcastle are having to deal with.

While frustration is to be expected and telling supporters how to act after such a long and presumably expensive journey feels wrong, context must be applied.

Eddie Howe has the club fighting in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup just over two years since taking over the team during a relegation scrap. There are a number of key players missing for various reasons and FFP constraints blocked what the club could do in the summer transfer window.

With that in mind, perhaps it is of little surprise that Newcastle appear to be running out of steam.

As you can imagine given the unity in the club at the moment, co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi had a response to Trippier's emotional message.

Ghodoussi then responded with three love hearts, underlining his faith in the Newcastle star.

Indeed, they have proven they can create their own momentum even when the chips appear to be down.

With the likes of Alexander Isak expected back in action after the international break, there is reason to believe.
