Not only did we witness maybe the worst display by a Newcastle team this season but our in]juries continue to mount.
Only yesterday we lost another experienced player in Almiron, who went off after 31 minutes with a hamstring injury - no word yet on how severe the hamstring is - but he could well be out for the rest of the year.
Here's what Eddie Howe about the injuries after the game:
"We have a whole host of players and we need them back as soon as possible."
"We have a busy December as well, so it's not a good mix but something we have to get used to."
"It's a hamstring problem with Almiron." "I hope it's not serious. We all hope that, but we don't know at this moment in time quite how bad it is."
"Callum Wilson won't travel with England. He's going to be out for a number of weeks."
Maybe the best thing to do is to list the current injuries we have with comments from the Premier League injury site:
Dates are in English - the day first followed by the month.
Jacob Murphy - Shoulder
Nov 04: 'With Jacob, we always knew there was a chance that he could do his shoulder again. We will lose him now to an operation. I'm not completely sure how long he will be out for, but it'll probably be around three months.'
Return Date: 30/01/2024
Dan Burn - Lower back
Nov 06: 'Unfortunately, Dan will be out for some time. It could be a couple of months; that is sort of a speculative answer. I think he has got a problem with the base of his spine. It is a big blow for us.'
Return Date: 13/01/2024
Harvey Barnes - Foot
Sept 29: 'We think he's going to be out for around three months. No surgery is required, which is good news, but his foot is now in a boot. It's an injury underneath his toe. He's now started his recovery, and he's got to rest.'
Return Date: 06/01/2024
Elliot Anderson - Lower Back
Stress Fracture
Return Date: 26/12/2023
Sven Botman - Knee
Nov 10: 'No massive news on Sven; he is progressing well; he has been away in the Netherlands getting specialist treatment. I think he's back here today, so I will chat with him and see how he is getting on.'
No Return Date
Callum Wilson - Hamstring
Nov 10: 'Callum has a tight hamstring. We are doing various tests on him; we will see how he does this morning before making a decision on the game.'
Return Date: 25/11/2023
Alexander Isak - Groin/pelvis
Nov 10: 'Alex is doing well and is working on his fitness levels. We are building up his load, and the plan is for him to return after the international break.'
Return Date: 25/11/2023
Miguel Almiron - Thigh
Hamstring Strain
No return date
Javier Manquillo - Groin/Hip/Pelvic
'He's got a groin problem.'
No Return Date
Matt Target - Thigh
Nov 03: 'It doesn't look good. He is having his scan today, so we will know more. When you have a hamstring injury, you fear the worst. It is a real blow to lose him - he is a top player.'
No Return Date
So there you have it - the 10 injured players with Sandro Tonali suspended until late August and Bruno Guimaraes suspended for yesterday's game - and boy, did we miss him.
There's not much relief coming until early next year.
