Eddie Howe admits desperate hope for Newcastle's injury situation after Bournemouth loss

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is desperate for some positive injury news over the international break after his side slumped to a shock 2-0 defeat on the south coast to relegation battlers Bournemouth

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is hoping for some good news on the injury front during the international break.

The Magpies have been hit hard by injuries, with 11 players missing from Saturday's defeat at Bournemouth. Miguel Almiron also suffered a hamstring problem in the first half, which Howe hopes isn't too serious.

Bruno Guimaraes was another notable absence due to suspension, and Newcastle haven't won any of the seven matches he's missed since joining the club. "The break has come at a very good time," said Howe. "It doesn't mean we will have a flood of players back but hopefully one or two."

"Bruno was a huge miss. We'll get him back. But a lot are longer-term and we have to accept that. I think we've been unlucky some bizarre injuries. Jacob Murphy's shoulder, Dan Burn landing on his back. There's nothing we can do about that. Its a unique situation."

"So, the lads aren't giving everything?" Trippier shouted. "How many injuries have we got? How many injuries have we got?"

Explaining the row down the tunnel afterwards, Trippier said: "The fans are emotional, of course they are. They have travelled a long way, they spend a lot of money to come and watch us. I was just having a chat with one of them, I said we are giving everything.

"There is no need to panic, we are still in a good position in the league, we are still in the Champions League, Carabao Cup quarter-finals, there is no need to panic. We got beat, we do apologise for that result, but the most important thing is that the lads are giving everything. We are giving more under the circumstances."

Fan Thomas Willoughby has since owned up to his involvement, writing on Facebook: "It was me, I travelled all day and was very frustrated with the performance. I regret having a go at them because I know what all these players have done for this club. Everyone's done stupid things. I hold my hands up and admit I shouldn't have had a go at them that much but was just the heat of the moment."

Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke scored twice in the second half, lifting them out of the relegation zone. Speaking to Sky Sports, Solanke said: "Obviously we haven't had the best of starts to the season, but I think we're in a place now to kick on."

"We've had two back-to-back wins at home in the league now. We're looking to push forward and hopefully I can keep scoring."
