Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has admitted that he is so pleased for Anthony Gordon and the praise he is receiving this season.

The Magpies have enjoyed an exciting start to the season, with Eddie Howe's side competing on multiple fronts as they head into the busy winter period.

There have been plenty of impressive performers for Newcastle, but the most important player has arguably been Anthony Gordon.

He looks transformed from last season, having endured a tough start to life at St James' Park. His first few months with Newcastle were difficult, with Gordon struggling to have any real impact.

But that has completely changed now, and the 22-year-old has been a key performer for Newcastle in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup.

He has been much more decisive in the final third too, boasting four goals and two assists so far. He has also won two penalties for his team.

Gordon is relishing the responsibility of being Newcastle's chief creator, and has seriously impressed Kieran Trippier with his performances.

Kieran Trippier thinks Anthony Gordon is a 'machine' Before Newcastle's defeat to Bournemouth, Trippier spoke to beIN Sport. He was asked to discuss Gordon's form so far this season.

"Ant is a top player," he said.

"When he first came here, I think it was a little bit difficult for him. I think he admitted that. With the physicality, the way we play - every new player takes time to get used to it.

"But I was with him just before he went away for the Euros, I was on holiday with him. And the importance of getting a run of games, getting much fitter and he's come back in pre-season like a machine.

"He deserves all the plaudits he gets. I think he's been incredible. One of our best players this season. His goals and assists are getting higher so full credit to him because he deserves everything."

He was a big money signing at an initial PS40million, which looked far too much for a player who appeared to be crumbling under the Everton pressure.

But Newcastle invested in potential, and he is already realising that potential on Tyneside. It has not taken him long, but Gordon is already showing Toon fans why he was valued so highly and why Newcastle officials were desperate to sign him.

He is perfect for Howe's side, boasting the energy and intelligence to defend from the front, while he has the type of passion that the Toon Army absolutely loves. Combine that with his speed and skill and it is no surprise that Gordon is already a fan favourite at St James' Park.
