Report: What Newcastle United insiders are now saying about Dan Burn’s latest injury
Source: Geordiebootboys

Insiders are now suggesting that there is no sense of panic at Newcastle United after Dan Burn's freak incident added to the growing injury list.

After jumping for a header against Arsenal last weekend, Burn fell awkwardly on his back and had to be substituted at half-time, adding to Eddie Howe's injury headache at Newcastle.

Insiders are saying that those at the top of the club, however, are not overly concerned about these types of injuries and will not put any blame at the manager's or staff's feet.

The report suggests that Burn's back problem is 'typical of the sort of freak injuries' Newcastle are currently dealing with.

Newcastle unlucky to lose 10 to injury For many of those sidelined for Newcastle, it's not so simple as to say Howe has been working them too hard in training in the last few months.

Burn is a perfect example of a purely freak incident that cannot be helped. The same can be said for Jacob Murphy, who required surgery on a dislocated shoulder he picked up against Borussia Dortmund, and Matt Targett, who felt at his best before injuring his hamstring just a few minutes into the clash against Manchester United.

Another who will be unavailable for selection is Sandro Tonali who is serving a 10-month suspension for gambling. Again it's something out of Howe's control and therefore not something he can be blamed for.

It is a concern that almost an entire starting 11 are now out, but individually these cases can be explained and many should not be recurring issues once they recover.

This leaves Howe with the very difficult task of keeping the team in contention of a European spot until he can add a few more players back into his side.

As we saw against Bournemouth, it's not just the injury list that is affecting Newcastle's performances, but the fact that the same starting 11 are having to play almost every minute of every game.

Fatigue certainly played a huge role in their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth and it's fair to say the international break has come at a good time for the team, even though a handful of key players will still be featuring for their countries.
