This South American Midfielder May Be A Good Acquisition For Newcastle In January

Since Sandro Tanali was banned from playing for Newcastle for 10 months, we have covered several potential central midfield signings to replace since then - loan or permanent.

But one we haven't covered is Atalanta's 24-year-old Brazilian U20 midfielder Ederson, as a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali.

TuttoMercatoWeb have now reported that Newcastle are indeed interested in Ederson.

We know we have to bring in at least one central midfielder to cope with the absence of Sandro Tonali but we would like to see it be a long-term deal as well as filling in for Tonali for this season.

Here is a translation of some of the Tuttomercatoweb article:

"Newcastle are after Ederson and for Atalanta, the valuation is (at least) EUR40M (note - that's about PS35M)."

"The Brazilian's excellent performances have attracted the attention of some big clubs. In particular, there is Newcastle, orphaned by Tonali, who are very interested in signing him"

"Atalanta, after all, paid around EUR15M for him plus Lovato's price tag, valued at EUR11M (EUR26M in total)."

"Therefore, it is also difficult to think that, after a good period, the Nerazzurri might not want to make money from it."

"In January, unless there are crazy offers, Ederson will not leave."

Ederson has played 53 times for Atalanta with 6 goals and 2 assists and he has a single cap for the Brazil U20 side.

So if the Newcastle hierarchy think that Ederson is the right central midfield player to come in during January, we can get him for around PS35M, and probably less than that.

We are sure Sporting Director Dan Ashworth and his team have been doing their homework, as to which player would be the best acquisition in January to replace Tonali.

But as well as bringing in a central midfielder to plug the gap caused by Sandro Tonali's ban, we will need at least three more players.

Our injuries have reached a crisis point, and we hope to get maybe 3 players back before the Chelsea game at home on November 25th.
